North Point Marina Security Officer

The Winthrop Harbor Police Department is seeking qualified candidates to fill seasonal positions as Community Service Officers on our North Point Marina Security detail. These positions begin on April 1, 2012 and continue through October 31, 2012. Community Service Officers who successfully complete the hiring process and work through the 2012 season may be invited to return for subsequent seasons.

North Point Marina hosts seasonal festivals, fishing and boating events, as well as free launch facilities, fishing piers, picnic areas and a public beach. Security for North Point Marina is provided through the administration and direction of the Winthrop Harbor Police Department. North Point Marina is the largest inland marina in the United States, with over one million visitors per season.

Successful candidates will possess excellent communication skills both in person and in writing. They will bring a high level of energy to the position and will be adept at managing multiple tasks effectively. Must be able to learn and leverage new skills quickly in a fast paced environment. Good people skills are necessary as demonstrated by a “can-do” attitude, consistent good judgment, superior problem solving skills, an even temperament, and an understanding of the TEAM concept. The Marina CSO position is a civilian, non-sworn security position.

Security personnel duties include:

  • Boat slip safety & security checks
  • Security checks on State supported property
  • Vehicle parking enforcement
  • After-hours transient boat slip assignment
  • General assistance to the Marina community

  • Increase to $9.50 per hour after successful completion of probationary period
  • Wage step increases for 2nd, 3rd and 4th seasons

  • Pre-employment and random drug screening required
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Ability to pass standard Law Enforcement background check required
  • Minimum age at time of application: 18 years

After your Employment Interest Form has been reviewed, you will be notified if you qualify to submit an Employment Application.

Important Dates:

  • Employment Interest Forms will be accepted through 5 p.m. on February 24, 2012.
  • Qualified candidates will be notified by February 27th, and Employment Applications will be due by March 5th.
  • Personal interviews will be conducted March 5th through 10th.
  • Initial training will be conducted on Saturdays, March 17th and March 24th. This is mandatory for all CSO's.
