PRESS RELEASE


March 9, 2009: Arrest Notices 3/5/09 - 3/8/09

Retail Theft:
On 03/05/09, at approximately 7:10 p.m., Officers took a report of a retail theft at United Liquors, 1243 Sheridan Road. The complaint advised a female took a bottle of Hennessy Cognac without paying for the item. On 03/09/09, Detectives interviewed and arrested Andre Halstead, 39, of Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin. Halstead was charged with Retail Theft. Halstead was later released by a personal recognizance bond pending a future court date.

Suspicious Vehicle:
On 03/09/09, an Officer received a complaint by an anonymous caller reference a subject sleeping inside of his motor vehicle at a local hotel. During further investigation, the officer observed a clear plastic bag containing cannabis located in plain view inside of the motor vehicle. Connell Spruill, 21 of Zion was subsequently charged with Unlawful Possession of Cannabis. Spruill was later released by a personal recognizance bond pending a future court date.

Traffic Arrests-
On 03/07/09, an Officer stopped a vehicle in the 900 block of Landon Avenue for a stop sign violation. The driver, Stephanie A. Cusimano, 35, of Winthrop Harbor was arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol. During an incident to arrest search on the motor vehicle, the Officer located a small amount of cannabis and a cannabis smoking pipe. Cusimano was charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol with a BAC Over .08, Failure to Notify SOS of Change of Address, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Unlawful Possession of Cannabis, and Disobeyed a Stop Sign. Cusimano was later released on a personal recognizance bond pending a future court date.

On 03/07/09, An Officer received a complaint of a possible intoxicated motorist. The driver, Adrienna C. Bustos, 33, of Zion was arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, Illegal Transportation of Alcohol, and Improper Lane Usage. Bustos was later released on a personal recognizance bond pending a future court date.

On 03/08/09, An officer stopped a vehicle near the intersection of 5th Street and Roberts Road for a headlight violation. The officer smelled a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from inside of the vehicle. The driver, a Juvenile, was arrested for Illegal Transportation of Alcohol, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and One Headlight. During field interviews and with the assistance of the Preliminary Breath Test (PBT) the passengers: Kendall S. Horton, 19, of Waukegan, Evan E. Crews, 18, of Winthrop Harbor, and two Juveniles were all charged with Unlawful Consumption of Liquor by Minor. All the above listed Juveniles were safely turned over to their parents pending a future court date.
