Retail Theft/Unlawful
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia:
On 03/29/09, at approximately 9:33 p.m., Officers took a report
of a retail theft at the Marathon Gas Station, 901 Sheridan Road.
The complaint advised a male took a Grey Goose Vodka Bottle
without paying for the item. Officers later located the suspect,
conducted an interview, and conducted a subsequent search of
his residence. During the search of the suspect's residence,
Officers located crack cocaine smoking pipes. Romell L. Allen,
37, of Winthrop Harbor and Patricia A. Martinez, 44, of Winthrop
Harbor were subsequently arrested. Allen was charged with Retail
Theft and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Martinez
was charged with Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Allen and Martinez were later released by a notice to appear
pending a future court date.
Warrant Arrest/Resisting
a Peace Officer:
On 03/31/09, at approximately 12:38 a.m., an Officer made contact
with a suspicious person near the intersection of 9th Street
and Sheridan Road. After the Officer identified the subject;
the Officer learned the suspect had an active in-state warrant
for his arrest for a parole violation. Ryan F. Groh, 21 of
Chicago was subsequently taken into custody and transported to
the police department for processing. Groh was additionally
charged with Obstruction of Justice and Resisting Arrest during
the booking process. Groh was later transported to the Lake
County Jail pending a bond hearing.
Traffic Arrests-
On 03/31/09, an Officer stopped a vehicle in the 500 block of
Lewis Avenue for a registration violation. The driver, Jesus
Montes De Oca, 19, of Kenosha, Wisconsin was arrested for Improper
Use of Registration, No Valid Registration, and No Valid Driver's
License. Montes De Oca was later released on a notice to appear
pending a future court date.
On 04/01/09,
An Officer stopped a vehicle in the 200 block of Sheridan Road
for speeding. The driver, James A. Booth, 37, of Winthrop Harbor
was arrested for Speeding, Expired Registration, Operation of
an Uninsured Vehicle, and Driving While License Suspended. Booth
was later released on a personal recognizance bond pending a
future court date.
