May 3, 2010: Arrest Notices 4/26/10 - 4/30/10

Business Tobacco Compliance Checks:

On 04/26/2010, the Winthrop Harbor Police Department conducted tobacco compliance checks at the following businesses: Smoke 4 Less (545 Sheridan Road), Harbor Foods and Liquors (644 Sheridan Road), Tobacco Shop (719 Sheridan Road), Clark Gas Station (847 Sheridan Road), Marathon Gas Station (901 Sheridan Road), J.R. Plaza (1016 Sheridan Road), Harbor Foods (1235 Sheridan Road), and United Liquors (1243 Sheridan Road). Upon conclusion of the tobacco compliance checks every above listed Winthrop Harbor business passed and no violations were observed.

Traffic Arrests:

On 04/28/10, an Officer stopped a vehicle within the 500 block of Sheridan Road for not having a front license plate displayed on the motor vehicle. The driver, Kenneth R. Smith, 32, of Waukegan was subsequently taken into custody after failing field sobriety testing. After Smith was transported to the Winthrop Harbor Police Department for processing, the officer located a small amount of cannabis inside of Smith's shoe. Smith was charged with No Front Registration Plate, Improper Display of Motor Vehicle Registration, Unlawful Possession of Cannabis, Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, and Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol with a BAC over 0.08. Smith was later released by his signature pending a future court date.

On 04/30/10, an Officer stopped a vehicle near the intersection of 9th Street and West Broadway Avenue for failure to signal when required. The driver, Joshua D. Piatckiewicz, 21, of Zion was subsequently taken into custody after the officer verified Piatckiewicz's driver's license was revoked. Piatckiewicz was charged with Failure to Signal when Required and Driving While License Revoked. Piatckiewicz was later released by his signature pending a future court date.

On 04/28/10, an Officer stopped a vehicle within the 800 block of Fulton Avenue for disobeying a stop sign. The driver, Michael S. Lack, 39, of Kenosha, Wisconsin was subsequently taken into custody after failing field sobriety testing. Lack was charged with Disobeyed a Stop Sign, Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, and Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol with a BAC over 0.08. Lack was later released by his signature pending a future court date.
