Drug Induced Homicide Investigation:
On 02/14/2011, Officers were dispatched within the 1000 block of Sheridan Road for a report of a drug overdose. The victim, Robert Eubanks, 24, of Kenosha Wisconsin later died due to a heroin overdose while being transported to the hospital by Winthrop Harbor Fire Department personnel. After further investigation and interviews later conducted by detectives; Andrew T. Matovich, 41, of Winthrop Harbor and Leah I. Styles, 39, of Winthrop Harbor were both subsequently arrested and charged for Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance with the Intent to Deliver, and Unlawful Delivery of a Controlled Substance. Matovich and Styles were later transported to the Lake County Jail and were each given a $250,000 cash bond. Additional charges are expected after further review with the Lake County States Attorney's Office.
On 03/02/2011, an Officer stopped a vehicle within the 1200 block of West Broadway Avenue for speeding. The driver, Richard G. Brown, 28, of Winthrop Harbor was subsequently charged with Speeding and Driving While License Suspended. Brown was released on scene by his signature pending a future court date.
On 03/04/2011, an Officer stopped a vehicle within the 2900 block of 9th Street for speeding. The driver, Stephen S. Tolefree, 46, of Winthrop Harbor was subsequently charged with Speeding and Driving While License Suspended. Tolefree was released on scene by a notice to appear pending a future court date.
On 03/05/2011, an Officer stopped a vehicle within the 500 block of Kenosha Road for driving while brights illuminated. The driver, Gonzalo Hernandez, 29, of Zion was charged with Operation of an Uninsured Motor Vehicle and Driving While License Suspended. Hernandez was released on scene by a notice to appear pending a future court date.
On 03/06/2011, an Officer stopped a vehicle within the 1300 block of Sheridan Road for improper lane usage. The driver, Alvin Lee Patterson, 46, of Winthrop Harbor was subsequently taken into custody after the Officer verified his Illinois Driver's License was suspended. During a tow inventory search a cannabis smoking pipe was located in the motor vehicle. Patterson was charged with Improper Lane Usage, Operation of an Uninsured Motor Vehicle, Driving While License Suspended, and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Patterson was later released by his signature pending a future court date.
Attempted Residential Burglary/Criminal Damage to Property:
On 03/06/2011, Officers were dispatched within the 1100 block of Adams Avenue for an attempted residential burglary. Officers later discovered some unknown person(s) attempted to utilize a crow bar type tool to gain access to the rear exterior door to the residence but was unsuccessful.
Burglary to Motor Vehicle:
Officers were dispatched within the 500 block of Thompson Avenue
for a report of a Burglary to Motor Vehicle. Upon Officers arrival;
the complaint advised she left her vehicle doors unlocked and
further reported a Magellan Maestro 3100 was taken from her motor
vehicle without her consent.
