PRESS RELEASE


March 21, 2011: Arrest Notices 3/15/11 - 3/20/11

Traffic Arrests:

On 03/15/2011, an Officer was dispatched near the area of 7th Street and Whitney Avenue in regards to a reckless driver. The Officer subsequently located the motor vehicle and observed the vehicle had struck another vehicle on the roadway. The driver, Todd C. Blair, 27, of Winthrop Harbor was subsequently taken into custody after failing field sobriety tests. Blair was charged with Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident, Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, and Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol with a BAC over 0.08. Blair was later released by his signature pending a future court date.

On 03/16/2011, an Officer stopped a vehicle within the 1400 block of Lewis Avenue for expired registration. The driver, Trent M. Littlefield, 40, of Zion was subsequently taken into custody after the Officer verified his Illinois Driver's License was suspended. Littlefield was charged with Expired Registration, Defective Windshield, Operation of an Uninsured Motor Vehicle, and Driving While License Suspended. Littlefield was later released by his signature pending a future court date.

On 03/17/2011, an Officer stopped a vehicle within the 700 block of Sheridan Road for failure to signal when required. The driver, Jeffery E. Ferraro, 44, of Winthrop Harbor was subsequently taken into custody after failing field sobriety tests. Ferraro was charged with Failure to Signal When Required and Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol. Ferraro was later released by his signature pending a future court date.

On 03/19/2011, an Officer stopped a vehicle within the 1700 block of Sheridan Road for improper lane usage. The driver, Bryan J. Knox, 19, of Zion was subsequently taken into custody after failing field sobriety tests. A search of the motor vehicle was conducted by the Officer and a glass cannabis pipe was located near the center console. Knox was charged with Improper Lane Usage, No Driver's License on Person, Illegal Transportation of Alcohol, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, and Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol with a BAC over 0.08. Knox was later released by his signature pending a future court date.

On 03/20/2011, an Officer observed a motor vehicle parked at the stop sign intersection located at 8th Street and Fulton Avenue. The driver, Rita A. Major, 49, of Zion was subsequently taken into custody after failing field sobriety tests. Major was charged with Improper Parking, Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, and Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol with a BAC over 0.08. Major was later released by her signature pending a future court date.

Theft:

On 03/17/2011, an Officer was dispatched within the 2100 block of 11th Street to report a Theft of a Bicycle. The complaint advised some unknown person(s) took his gray and black Giant Cypress DX mountain bicycle from his patio without his consent.

Alcohol Compliance Checks:

On 03/20/2011, The Winthrop Harbor Police Department conducted alcohol compliance checks with a 18 year old subject at the following local businesses: Cheese Shack (545 Sheridan Road), Harbor Foods and Liquors (644 Sheridan Road), Clark Gas Station (847 Sheridan Road), Marathon Gas Station (901 Sheridan Road), G and G Pantry (1016 Sheridan Road), and United Liquor's (1243 Sheridan Road). Upon the conclusion of the alcohol compliance checks; all of the above listed businesses were found in compliance and refused to sell liquor to the 18 year old subject.
