Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault of a Child and Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse Arrest Investigations:

During a two week investigation of alleged sexual abuse at a licensed residential day care facility was conducted by Winthrop Harbor Police Department Detectives. The investigation of the facility operated by Cheryl Degler, resulted in the arrest of Brett A. Degler, 17, of Winthrop Harbor. Upon the conclusion of the investigation, Degler was charged on three counts of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault of a Child and four counts of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse. Arrest Warrants were additionally issued and served by Winthrop Harbor Police Department Detectives, who arrested Degler and transported him to the Lake County Jail. A bond hearing resulted in the issuing of a $500,000 Cash Bond, and Degler was remanded to the Lake County Jail, where he remains.

The three female victims in the case ranged from 4-11 years old at the time of the incidents, which occurred over a five month period beginning in November of 2011. The Lake County Children's Advocacy Center conducted the child sensitive interviews and the victims were treated at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
