PRESS RELEASE


May 1, 2012: Arrest Notices 4/23/12 - 4/28/12

Traffic Arrests:

On 04/26/2012, an Officer stopped a vehicle near the intersection of Sheridan Road and 4th Street for Speeding. The driver, Daniel Garcia 26, of Beach Park was subsequently taken into custody after the Officer verified he had a suspended Illinois Driver's License. Garcia was issued citations for Speeding and Driving While License Suspended. Garcia was later released by his signature pending a future branch court date.

On 04/28/2012, an Officer stopped a vehicle within the 700 block of Sheridan Road for a seat belt violation. The driver, Jose Perez 38, of Zion was subsequently taken into custody after the Officer confirmed he had a suspended Illinois Driver's License. Perez was issued citations for Failure to Wear Seatbelt - Driver, Child Not Secured in Child Restraint Seat or Seat Belt, and Driving While License Suspended. Perez was later released by his signature pending a future branch court date.

Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault:

On 04/23/2012, an Officer was contacted by The Department of Children and Family Services related to a possible Criminal Sexual Assault Investigation. The 13 year old victim was later identified and transported to the Child Advocacy Center to be interviewed. The facts of the case were later screened by the Lake County States Attorney's Office and the subject, Ryan N. Fischer, 39, of Winthrop Harbor, was later subsequently taken into custody and charged with 3 counts of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault and Criminal Sexual Assault for incidents that were reported to have occurred for the last two years.

Alcohol Compliance Checks:

On 04/27/2012, the Winthrop Harbor Police Department subsequently conducted Alcohol compliance checks at the below listed business establishments with the assistance of a 20 Community Service Officer. The below listed businesses passed and checked identification as required on the underage subject:

Foremost Liquors, 1243 Sheridan Road, VFW, 1112 Sheridan Road, Marathon Gas Station, 901 Sheridan Road, Clark Gas Station, 847 Sheridan Road, The Tavern on Sheridan, 728 Sheridan Road, Harbor Foods and Liquors, 644 Sheridan Road, Time Out Sports Bar, 1706 7th Street, The Cheese Shack, 545 Sheridan Road.

The below listed businesses failed, sold alcohol to the underage subject, and each business establishment were issued an ordinance citation for Sale of Liquor to a Minor:

G & G Pantry, 1016 Sheridan Road, Lighthouse, 935 Sheridan Road, and Stone Creek, 206 Sheridan Road.
