Helpful Information for
the Construction of a Deck or Patio
1. Fill out application for permit
(available at Building Dept., Village Hall, or online.)
2. A Plat of Survey of your property
is to be submitted, indicating where the deck or patio will be
located. (IF ON SEPTIC, you will need a Lake County Property
Alteration prior to issuance of a Building Permit)
3. Submit a drawing or sketch
of the deck or patio with dimensional details along with the
completed application.
4. Guardrails are required for
raised floor surfaces of more than 16 inches above grade and
they shall not be less than 36 inches in height.
5. Required guardrails on open
side of stairways, raised floor areas, balconies and porches
shall have intermediate rails or ornamental closures which do
not allow passage of an object 4 inches or more in diameter.
6. Permit fee is based on the
value of the job:
- Value under $5,000 = $50.00
permit
- Value over $5,000 = 2% of construction
cost (Minimum = $50.00)
- Certificate of Compliance and
Occupancy fee of $25.00
