Helpful Information for
the Construction of a Shed
1. Fill out application for permit
(available at Building Dept., Village Hall, or online)
2. A Plat of Survey of your property
is to be submitted, indicating where the shed will be located.
(IF ON SEPTIC, you will need a Lake County Property Alteration
prior to issuance of a Building Permit)
3. A shed must be located in
the rear or side yard and must be a minimum of 10 feet from the
house.
4. A setback of 3 feet off the
side and rear property lines must be observed.
5. All sheds must be anchored
to a 4-inch concrete slab.
6. A drawing of the proposed
construction is required.
7. When buying a kit or pre-constructed
shed, the manufacturers drawing or instructions will be sufficient.
8. Maximum height of a shed is
18 feet from concrete slab to ridge.
9. Fees:
- Permit fee is based on the value
of the job.
- Value under $5,000 = $50.00
permit
- Value over $5,000 = 2% of construction
cost. Minimum = $50.00
- Certificate of Compliance and
Occupancy fee of $25.00
